The story behind StoryDocs

StoryDocs is one of the products built by StartupMap Hub — the platform behind StartupMap Africa, where we tell the stories of the founders and companies building the continent's future.

It isn't a tool we made and walked away from. StoryDocs is the same engine StartupMap Africa uses to produce its own startup documentaries and explainer videos. If you've watched our work, you've already seen what it can do — we just opened it up so any founder can do the same with a single link.

Our very first startup documentary took five days to make and cost close to $70 — and that was the "cheap" way, stitching together a handful of AI tools to script, narrate, and animate it. Every one of those days was spent fighting the seams.

Because that's the catch nobody warns you about: tool by tool, the output drifts. The voice changes between clips. The visual style won't hold. One scene looks cinematic and the next looks like a different project entirely. We'd export, wince, and start another round. Five days of that for one video.

So we built the thing we wished existed: one pipeline that keeps the script, the voice, and the look consistent from the first frame to the last — and does it in under five minutes, for a fraction of what that first attempt cost.

Every founder deserves to have their story told well — not just the ones who can afford an agency or burn a week on editing. Great video has always been a credibility unlock for raising, selling, and launching, and it shouldn't be gated behind cost and complexity.
